philosophy
This is your project. Creating good environments is about understanding the people who use them. The architect helps the client see the possibilities for the project and then acts as the bridge between the client, who is rarely involved in building, and the contractor, who does it everyday. Every project is a collaboration and every person has a part to play. Projects become something more than a building when all the parties bring their gifts to the table.
design phases:
pre-design
In this phase, there are two principle questions that are asked:
1. What is being built?
2. Who is it being built for?
These questions tell us what the overall scope of the project will be and who will be using the structure when it is complete. Knowing and understanding the end user is critical to making buildings that excite and satisfy. As part of all our residential projects, we ask the client to fill out a detailed questionnaire that explores their priorities and lifestyles.
schematic design
This is where the creativity begins. Creativity is an exercise in "what if". Inspiration can come from many sources: the site, an in depth understanding of the client or perhaps even an object the client holds dear. The key is to not throw away any of the "what ifs" before they have had a chance to inform the design process.
design development
In this phase the schematic design is taken to the next level. The spaces are refined and developed in three dimensions, structure is planned and material selections are begun.
construction documentation
The documents created in this phase describe the building in detail. These are the "instructions" that tell the contractor what to build.
construction administration
This phase is critical to making sure the client gets what they paid for. Site visits, submittal review and payment application certification are all part of what we can do for the client .
